Originally the Apple site simple said "Your iPod" but that is not the case. It covers additional support questions for a year and extends the manufacturers defect coverage for a year. It also covers the headphones and power/USB cable. None of which was worth it. What you really want is accidental damage coverage which is the most likely problem you will experience. The plan is designed to make money for apple with very little incremental cost to them. ou are better off getting an instore warranty. Many Visa/Mastercard have an extended warrany benefit that extend the manufacturers warrant and covers loss or damage. It is probably easier to use an instore plan but is it worth 25% or more of the cost of the iPod. I say Stay Away from the Apple Care plan! Note: I purchased two plans and called Apple 4 times now. The play spot on the click wheel seemed to have died. Luckily I bought the Apple Care protection for it. So it's a year and a half after I got the pod and noticed that it was still under Apple Care. Thinking that the RMA process would be annoying and time consuming, I decided I would short circuit the phone portion of the process and made a reservation at the Genius Bar in the Apple store in the local mall for the next day. I showed up, showed the guy my ipod and he agreed that the button was dead... Whereupon he disappeared into the back for a couple of minutes. I figured he was trying to get info on how to start an RMA on an old gen bit of kit... instead he brings out a NEW (or referbed, can't tell... it was blemish free, anyway) iPod, hands it over and tells me that the serials have been transferred and the remaining time on my extended protection plan has been transferred as well. All I had to do was go home and plug it into itunes. Are protection plans worth it? Most of the time no.. but even so I'll still buy Apple's just because if it IS needed, it's so easy to work through. Ask others about the hoops that have to be jumped through for most extended warranties... The bother itself makes them not worth while most of the time.
